In the past, drug testing, as part of SUD treatment, was associated with a punitive approach and negative consequences. As SUD treatment and MAT have evolved, programs like Family Guidance Center have changed the use of drug testing so that it is part of a compassionate and therapeutic continuum of care. FGC also uses a state-of-the-art testing method, which takes less than five minutes and utilizes non-intrusive oral swabs, with results from a licensed laboratory available within a few days. At FGC, drug testing is often used to help determine the optimal placement in a level of care, to provide information for ongoing treatment planning, to encourage treatment adherence, and to provide feedback to patients on their motivation for change. In addition, drug testing can be a powerful tool to help patients rebuild trust with family members, loved ones, and employers.
